A Woman Out of Time

They rose early on Halloween and dressed in silence without any of the usual lingering touches that Emily had begun to rely on. For the first time since she'd been on the island, she pulled on her old boots and jeans--usually too heavy for the tropical heat. She tied her hair back from her face and buttoned one of Matt's shirts over her own. Her knife went on her belt and she had only a moment to lament the lack of EMDs.
